From Chris, a drummer and Improv Jam participant:

I had a great time fulfilling a dream to play drums in a jazz setting. We played some standards and there was plenty of soloing for each member. Elise played piano and flute, Bryan played guitar and drums.  I look forward to the coming weeks. I've played at jams at bars before, but they can sometimes seem intimidating and too loud. The jam here, made me feel as if I've known the other players for years. Any nervous jitters I may have had quickly dissipated.

It was a very welcoming, non-intimidating setting to play in.  There were no ego trips and no show-boating.  I believe the setting of the studio (as opposed to a bar or lounge) is very conducive to playing jazz and allowing the exchange and interaction of musical ideas.

The studio was very nice and comfortable.  The old wood floors and the scenic view of the river (especially tonight, with the reflection of the moon glimmering in it) also add to the ambience.  If I wasn't playing, I would enjoy listening and taking in the view.  The Oriental-style wall dividers in the corners gave the studio a warm touch.  It might be a great place to bring a date, read a book, sip some coffee (bring your own), or just relax while listening to creative music.  I would definitely recommend to musicians and jazz enthusiasts to hear and see it for themselves.

In the works for Fall 2008 are other arts events such as screenings of local independent films,
open mic sessions, and spoken word / poetry events.
